Robert Kingston Scott South Carolina Bond



Robert Kingston Scott, (1826-1900). Union Soldier and Governor of South Carolina. During the Civil War he received honorable mention for gallantry in action and commanded a brigade in Sherman's march to the sea. Later promoted to Brigadier General and at the end of the war was brevetted a Major General.

Beautiful uncancelled historic South Carolina Bond dated 1869 with several rows of coupons. Truly exceptional and superb in so many ways!

General John A. Dix - Mississippi and Missouri Railroad




John A. Dix (1798-1879), Soldier, Lawyer, Statesman. An active career in military and politics, he became Secretary of the Treasury in 1861, his chief service to the Union. His dispatch of Jan. 29, 1861 to a treasury official in New Orleans which ended: "If anyone attempts to haul down the American flag, shoot him on the spot!" was a clarion call to the North. After turning over the job to Salmon P. Chase, he was made a major-general. After the war, served as Minister to France and Governor of NY.

Gorgeous stock dated 1850s of the Mississippi & Missouri Railroad. Exceptional Southern stock. Slight hole cancel at signature. Nice! Scarce!

Frenchman's Bay and Mount Desert Land and Water Company

Mount Desert Island is rich in geological history dating back to approximately 550 million years ago. The earliest formation on the island is the Ellsworth Schist Formation, which was a sea-floor mud deposit created during the Cambrian period by volcanic ash.

Frenchman Samuel de Champlain, who made the first important contribution to the historical record of Mount Desert Island. He led the expedition that landed on Mount Desert on September 5, 1604 and wrote in his journal, "The mountain summits are all bare and rocky..... I name it Isles des Monts Desert."
