Edward Vernon Rickenbacker (1890-1973), Aviator and Businessman. Daredevil speed driver of cars and held the world speed record of 134 miles per hour. In World War I, he fought the "Red Barron". He earned nearly every decoration possible including the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Later organized the Rickenbacker Motor Company, bought a controlling interest in the Indianapolis Speedway, general manager of Eastern Airlines, later President.

Beautiful uncancelled historic South Carolina Bond dated 1869 with several rows of coupons. Truly exceptional and superb in so many ways!
John A. Dix (1798-1879), Soldier, Lawyer, Statesman. An active career in military and politics, he became Secretary of the Treasury in 1861, his chief service to the Union. His dispatch of Jan. 29, 1861 to a treasury official in New Orleans which ended: "If anyone attempts to haul down the American flag, shoot him on the spot!" was a clarion call to the North. After turning over the job to Salmon P. Chase, he was made a major-general. After the war, served as Minister to France and Governor of NY.
Minor irregular toning otherwise excellent condition. Rare!
