Civil War Collectible Major General John A. Dix
John A. Dix (1798-1879) held a stellar career as Major General during the Civil War, and serving as Secretary of the Treasury in 1861, U.S. Senator, and the Governor of New York.As Secretary of the Treasury, Dix sent a telegram to Treasury agents in New Orleans ordering: "If any one attempts to haul down the American flag, shoot him on the spot." The telegram was intercepted by Confederates, thus never delivered to the Treasury agents. However, the text did find its way to the press and Dix became one of the first heroes of the North during the Civil War.

Collectible US Steel Stocks and Bonds
Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919), Manufacturer and Philanthropist. Began an illustrious career as a bobbin boy at age 13, then became a self taught telegrapher with the Pennsylvania Railroad. In 1853-65, he introduced use of the Pullman sleeping cars, organized the military telegraph department, and was active in transporting troops during the Civil War. After leaving the railroad, he focused on iron and then the steel industry.
His policy of “putting all his eggs in one basket, and then watching the basket” was extremely successful.
By 1889 steel production in the U.S. was first in the world, and in 1901 he sold his company, Carnegie Company to the U.S. Steel Corporation for $250 million. The Carnegie Foundation of New York donated millions to scientific research, the advancement of teaching, the furthering of international peace, and the reward of heroic acts. The foundation is well known for building public libraries. This historic bond is dated 1901, the very year that he sold his company. This beautiful $100,000 5% United States Steel Gold Bond is issued to Andrew Carnegie, but not signed. The rarity of Carnegie stocks and bonds is well known. A while back, two signed examples of this bond were sold to collectors at $125,000 per bond! Neatly stamp and hole cancelled. The graphics and cranberry red color are truly exceptional. Fresh Excellent Condition. A portrait of Carnegie is included.
If we had to pick the top 10 U. S. stocks or bonds of all time, this would be one of our top choices!

Collectible Confederate Bonds
On Tuesday, November 24, 1987 Sotheby’s of London auctioned a large archive of Confederate bonds. The lot was described as “A major and extremely extensive archive of unredeemed bearer bonds issued by the Confederate States of America between 1861 and 1864, comprising over 87,000 individual certificates for numerous Loans authorized by Acts of The Confederate Congress.” This exceptional holding represented the entire surviving portfolio of Confederate Bonds. controlled by United Kingdom Trustees since the 1880s. The original objective of the Trustees was to get the Southern States debt paid following the Civil War. Of course, this dream had long since been abandoned. One of the key collectors of Confederate bonds in the U.S. in the 1980s and 90s w
as Frederick R. Mayer of Denver, Colorado. His goal was to create world class collections that could be turned into books or catalogs, thus adding to the knowledge and pleasure of future collectors. That is exactly what Mr. Mayer accomplished with his extraordinary collection of Confederate bonds. Many of the great rarities were used to provide the plate illustrations in Ball’s “Confederate Bonds” book.
Recently, we were fortunate to purchase a large segment of Mr. Mayer’s collection of Confederate bonds. If you would like to add to your collection or if you would like to start a collection, this offering will give you an opportunity to buy some great bonds. Please contact us ask for George if you would like to build a fine collection of Confederate bonds.

1913 Chinese Reorganization Bonds
Imperial Chinese Government Hukuang Railways bonds are well-nigh ubiquitous in the marketplace. They were issued in 1911 by a consortium of banks in London, Berlin, Paris and New York, with serial numbers running into the six digits, of which hundreds if not thousands appear to have survived. A few bear New York State adhesive revenue stamps; shown here is a New York issue £100 bond with Secured Debt $1 and Investments $1 stamps paying New York’s Investments tax in 1917 and 1918; this secured for the bondholder exemption from that state’s onerous personal property tax.
In an effort to rebuild China's financial structure, the Chinese government issued bonds in four major world currencies: French, Russian, German and British (francs, rubles, marks and pound-sterling). The 1913 Chinese bonds were risky. They were issued only two years after centuries of rule by Chinese dynasties ended when a group of rebel warlords seized power. The new government, in turn, succumbed to the Chinese communists led by Mao Zedong in the late 1940s.
China, 1913, Blue-Red. £100 5% Reorganization Gold Loan Bond, German Bank Issued. Uncancelled. 42-43 Coupons. Many coupons. Coupon bonds of this era are generally large and spectacular—American bonds typically measure about 10 by 15 inches—but this one sets new standards on both scores. Important to stress that these bonds have been bought up in recent years and pretty much taken off the market. As a result prices have risen rather dramatically. Excellent Condition!!! Price upon request.

About Old Bonds
A bond certificate, like a share, is an 'evidence of title;' a document given to an investor as evidence of ownership of an amount of invested capital. It does not in itself prove ownership.

- Bonds are issued, not only by businesses, but also by national, state, or city governments, or other public bodies, or sometimes by individuals.
- Bonds are a loan to the company or other body; they are normally repayable within a stated period.
- Bonds earn interest at a fixed rate, which must usually be paid by the undertaking regardless of its financial results.
- A bondholder is a creditor of the undertaking.

Autographed Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna Bond
Antonio de Padua María Severino López de Santa Anna y Pérez de Lebrón (21 February 1794 – 21 June 1876),[1] often known as Santa Anna[2] or López de Santa Anna, was a Mexic
an political leader, general and President who greatly influenced early Mexican and Spanish politics and government. He first fought against the independence from Spain, and then supported it.
Santa Anna rose to the ranks of general and president at various times over a turbulent 40-year career. He was President of Mexico on seven non-consecutive occasions over a period of 22 years.
Santa Anna boldly signs this extremely graphic bond. It is without doubt the most impressive and ornate of all autographed stock or bonds. This $500 bond was issued in 1866 from New York City while San
ta Anna was living in exile. While he schemed to depose Emperor Maximilian, he issued these bonds in hopes of regaining power. In these attempts, he was captured and sentenced to death. Still, he was released and allowed to retire to New York and later when blind, he died in poverty and neglect. Of course, we remember him because of his success over the Texans at the Alamo and later his defeat and capture by Sam Houston at San Jacinto in 1836.
Found in an old leather container in Texas, this Santa Anna signed American bond is fully issued, uncancelled, has no folds, has full margins and is in Superb condition.

More On Collecting Mexican Bonds
There are two types of buyers of Mexican bonds....
The first type want packages of several pieces of paperwork. Their goal is to place the paperwork into some sort of Bank Program. 99%+ of this type of "buyer" never actually buys anything.
The second type are people who want to buy authentic, uncancelled Mexican bonds. We show them the bonds, they wire funds when they are satisfied that the bonds are authentic, we hand them the bonds. This type of buyer is who we are looking for.
Quality Mexican bonds are in great demand at present. If you are the second type of buyer or if you know a buyer, please contact George H. LaBarre Galleries. We are a professional and experienced source of high quality old stocks and bonds. Our fine web site features over 6,000 different stock
s and bonds; 20 plus full color catalogs are also available.
For example, here is a Republica Mexicana Bono Del Tesoro bond. The year: 1913; £20, 6% Bond. Printed by American Bank Note Company, New York.
